Join us for a new performance by the Portrait Gallery’s first Choreographer-in-Residence, Dana Tai Soon Burgess. This suite of modern dances pays homage to vocalist Marian Anderson, an icon who broke racial barriers through her resplendent voice.
The tribute will feature dancers from the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company, opera singer Millicent Scarlett, and pianist Jeffery Watson.
Leslie Ureña, curator of the exhibition One Life: Marian Anderson, will contextualize Anderson’s legacy ahead of the performance.
National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, 6:30pm
